Update regarding the delivery of newly leased cars13 May 2020
Government guidelines regarding all aspects of life during COVID-19 are constantly changing but a recent update from the Department for Transport is welcome news for the motor industry.
Car manufacturers delivering now
The Department of Transport has clearly stated that the collection and delivery of vehicles, should carry on during the lockdown, provided that it can be done in accordance with Coronavirus safety guidelines.
Can I use my car during lockdown?
As we previously reported, the Government has issued clear guidance on when it is acceptable to be out in cars and on the road, namely:
- to shop for basic necessities, for example food and medicine, which must be as infrequent as possible
- for any medical need, or to provide care or to help a vulnerable person
- to travel to and from work, but only where this absolutely cannot be done from home
For key workers and Public Sector staff – access to vehicles is essential – especially with public transport being reduced to a minimum in a bid to reduce the spreading of Coronavirus.
Likewise, companies like Amazon who are recruiting to meet the demand of home delivery – a service often delivered by car – need to be able to rely on people have access to vehicles.
As a result, the motor industry has responded and LeasingOptions and its trusted suppliers are leading the way.
Manufacturers fulfilling orders
Mercedes and Tesla were the first manufacturers to re-start fulfilling all orders. The majority of other manufacturers including Ford, Lexus, Nissan and Toyota have all followed suit and have also committed to prioritise key workers.
Priority Delivery for Key Workers and NHS
LeasingOptions, who is also prioritising key workers and anyone volunteering for the NHS, has been working closely with all its partners to agree a ‘disinfected delivery’ meaning high safety precautions are put in place to facilitate any delivery.
Any cars being delivered to a LeasingOptions customer will not only adhere to the Government’s Coronavirus safety guidelines but will also have been fully disinfected first. Increased communication will eliminate any need for personal contact and any additional information or guidance regarding the new vehicle will be done subsequently via telephone or video calls.
Customers safety continues to be LeasingOptions key priority and every effort will be made to make sure that cars are delivered safely and meet its high level of customer service and satisfaction.
