It all starts with the blue and white roundel, that iconic BMW badge. The Bavarian company has a long history in manufacturing starting as a supplier of aircraft engines and moving on to motorcycles before building cars in the 1930s. The logo’s colours represent the flag colours of Bavaria and symbolise a spinning propeller against a blue sky.
The three core models 3, 5 and 7 Series in the BMW range we know of today trace their roots back to the 1970s.
The BMW 3 Series, available in 4 door saloon or touring body styles, is the perfect family car with ample leg and boot space in both body configurations for new or growing families, the slightly larger 5 Series also available in saloon and touring is more business orientated but equally suited for family duties. The luxurious 7 Series is pure executive travel, with a comfy ride for rear passengers, whilst maintaining sporty and engaging for the driver.
Those who wish to choose a sleeker body style BMW offer the 2, 4, 6 and 8 Series coupes and cabriolets, these 2-door variants have a sporty silhouette and swooping rooflines. The recently reintroduced 8 Series builds on the pedigree of its name being an all-round great sports car and grand tourer.
For every series in its range, BMW has built the corresponding X version. The SAV (Sports Activity Vehicles) range started back in 2001 with the X5, the company’s first SUV/SAV following shortly by the X3. These two vehicles offer all-wheel drive (xDrive), space, and practically for the adventurous, sporty, or family user.
BMW expanded the larger SAV range recently, launching the X7. Just like its 7 Series cousin it is luxurious and spacious whilst remaining capable on the loose muddy stuff.
The range also includes smaller crossover sized SAVs, matching their smaller saloons and hatchbacks in the number configurations in the BMW range. The X1 and X2 are available in all-wheel (xDrive) and rear-wheel drive, a true urban crossover.
The Z4 is BMWs 2-seater roadster, powered by a beautifully engineered 6-cylinder engine, with crisp handling and intuitive steering, it’s roof down, wind in your hair motoring at its finest.
Across its range, BMW has offered mild and active hybrid solutions to all their models. The i3 a zero-emissions vehicle offers cutting edge style in a city car-sized package with space for 4 adults with an electric range up to 188 miles.
We couldn't talk about BMW without mentioning the famous M division of BMW, where the brilliant is turned into exceptional. There is an M variant in the range to suit your performance level. The M2 Competition is a 2-door coupe with racing DNA or the M8 Competition Coupe, the flagship of the M range, blisteringly quick and combining race-focused performance with sheer luxury.
