Driverless Car Test Complex To Open Soon
02 December 2020A 1.2 million sq. ft test facility has been built upon an 83-acre site, located with the Horiba MIRA test centre on the A5 situated between Hinckley and Nuneaton. The new site - ASSURED CAV will be a test track and have on-site linked facilities which include a simulated city, multi-storey carpark and highway which could ultimately lead to 2,000 new jobs being created when it opens in March 2021.
The £100 million driverless car testing complex is in the last stages of development and nearly ready to open. The one-of-a-kind complex will place autonomous vehicles of the future through their paces.
The complex will provide real-life scenarios to be played out in safety, allowing cars, trucks and buses to encounter real-world situations.
Manufacturers have been using the MIRA site for years and now this dedicated test track will allow companies, in autonomous and computer-controlled vehicles, to expedite their development, bring new technologies to market quicker, and helping in acceptance of this new technology by a wider audience.
Data from the site will also help in with legislation changes in the future, implementation of insurance policies and the insurance of driverless cars, before driverless vehicles become an everyday sight on UK roads.
