Skoda Wrong-Way Warning System23 February 2021
Traffication is an app which has been by developed Bosch, which uses GPS information to calculate whether the vehicle is driving the wrong way on motorways.
The direction of travel is cross-referenced against mapping data, so the system knows which way the vehicle should be traveling and the way that it is currently traveling. If the two sets of data clash, a flashing warning appears on the infotainment system and other road uses with the app will get a visual warning of an oncoming vehicle.
The app only reads GPS data on entering and exiting a motorway and is available from the first quarter of 2021 on Superb, Scala and Skoda’s SUV range of Kamiq, Karoq and Kamiq with the top-level infotainment system based on the third generation Modular Infotainment Matrix (Columbus/Amundsen systems), with roll out to other models before the end of 2021.
The app is also capable of showing an early warning for stationary vehicles; it runs in the background and when a vehicle running the app is stationary with their hazard lights on, it'll send a warning to other users as they approach the location.
The app is easy to install via the shop and will be free until the middle of the year, then a small annual subscription fee will apply to continue using it.
