Following our recent blog on Manchester getting ready for the Clean air Zone rollout, Greater Manchester Combined Authority (GMCA) has announced that Manchester's clean air zone has been put on hold.
Mayor of Greater Manchester, Andy Burnham, has announced that the plans are being reviewed to determine how best to improve air quality in the region, fairly across all motorists, with new plans expected to be unveiled by the middle of this year.
Speaking at a local event, Burnham stated his aim was to cut pollution but without penalties.
The Government has agreed to delay the original 2024 deadline by which councils in Greater Manchester must comply by legal standards on air quality to 2026.
The Clean Air Zone, is a key component in the ‘northern powerhouse green revolution’, alongside other similar zones already in force across the UK.
We’ll keep you up to date as plans are made public.
