Ford have today unveiled the first images of their all-new Focus for 2018. The fourth-generation has been updated throughout, with a lower, wider and more athletic body - reminiscent of the 1 Series and recent A-Class - giving this new model a modern feel.
Since the first Focus rolled off the production line some 20 years ago, Ford have sold more than 2 million examples of the popular family hatchback in the UK alone. With ever growing competition from increasingly affordable premium marques, not to mention the onslaught from a wave of new SUVs, this is a hugely important vehicle for Ford- they'll be hoping it can replicate the considerable success of previous iterations.
New in this range will be the Active (above), which sports a 30mm taller body and increased ground clearance, bringing a more aggresive crossover style stance to the Focus family for the first time.
Those looking for a more upmarket choice will be able to opt for the Vignale, which features a bepsoke front grille as well as the option of a trim level exclusive colourway dubbed 'dark-mulberry.' Inside this variant will benefit from fine-grain wood-effect finishes and premium leather.
An estate version will also be available and will pack an impressive 1,650 litres of cargo space with the seats down. Pictured above in the titanium trim, the vehicle will feature hands-free tailgate system, allowing users to open the boot with a kicking motion under the rear bumper.
The range will include the familiar Ford trim levels Style, Zetec, ST-Line, ST-Line X, Titanium, Titanium X and Vignale. Branding gets an update with the usual badge design replaced by lettering which stretches across the vehicle's rear end
Across those models there will be a choice of four engines; the petrol EcoBoost options will come in the shape of a 1.0-litre with either 84bhp, 99bhp or 123bhp and a 2.0-litre offering 148bhp or 180bhp. Diesel options on the other hand include the 1.5-litre EcoBlue packing 94bhp or 118bhp and a 148bhp 2.0-litre.
Inside, there's a raft of new technology and improvements. All UK models will feature Ford's SYNC 3 infotainment system including an eight-inch touchscreen and all the usual smartphone connectivity. Users that download the FordPass app will also be able to lock and unlock their car with their phone, choose the 8-speed auto and you'll be able to start it remotely too.
Optional extras include full LED headlights and a super bright head-up display which can even be viewed through polarised sunglasses. Safety tech like Adaptive Cruise Control, Sign Recognition, Lane-Centring and Pre-Collision Assist with Pedestrian and Cyclist Detection will be on offer too.
