Peugeot UK has announced further technical and specification details of its all-new 508SW, as order books open for the versatile estate.
From the front of the car to the B-pillar, the SW is essentially the same car as the Fastback saloon launched last year. Being an estate, it doesn’t get quite the same rakish roofline as the Fastback, but courtesy of frameless doors and sweeping C-pillars, it has to be among the best-looking cars in this segment. It carries over the same striking tail lights as the Fastback, too.
Five trim grades across a 14-model line-up will be available from launch: Active, Allure, GT Line, GT and an exclusive First Edition, of which only 75 units have been set aside for the UK market.
The range-entry Active trim features 17-inch alloy wheels, Peugeot’s Connected-3D Navigation with live updates, electric driver’s seat-base and lumbar adjustment, automatic headlights and DAB radio as standard.
In Allure trim (and standard on all petrol versions), Active Suspension is offered plus Active Blind Spot Detection. Peugeot’s keyless entry and push button start also feature, plus a 10-inch HD touch screen and a 180-degree colour reversing camera.
The GT Line adds self-levelling full LED headlights and also comes with Peugeot i-Cockpit Amplify which allows customers to change the interior lighting balance as well as the engine note through active speaker technology.
The GT model features Peugeot’s Drive Assist Pack Plus, with Adaptive Cruise Control and Lane Positioning Assist. Also included is a FOCAL premium HiFi speaker system, Nappa Mistral full grain leather seat trim and 19-inch ‘Augusta’ diamond-cut two-tone alloy wheels.
The top-end First Edition adds Peugeot’s Night Vision technology – a first in the D-segment estate sector. The technology can spot pedestrians and even small animals such as dogs up to 200m ahead of the vehicle’s headlights, alerting drivers via the 12.3-inch instrument display panel. First Edition models will also come with Peugeot’s Visio Park 3, featuring 360-degree colour reversing camera and fully automated parking assistance.
Two petrol and four diesel engines will be available across the range in various states of tune, based on the 1.6-litre PureTech, as well as the 1.5-litre and 2.0-litre BlueHDi engines.
Later in the year a 225hp plug-in hybrid electric (PHEV) version will be available, providing power to the front wheels via 1.6-litre PureTech 180 engine and a 110hp electric motor.
Peugeot predicts the estate will account for more than 60% of total 508 sales thanks to its added practicality, with the 530-litre boot increasing to 1,780 litres with the rear seats folded flat.
