Engine and Performance

The J7 is only available in automatic as and comes in three different engine options depending on your choice of trim level.

The Jaecoo 7 Deluxe trim retails at just over £30k and offers one engine option:

Petrol - 1.6T 7DCT FWD

This front-wheel-drive variant features a 1.6L turbocharged engine paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission (DCT). It goes from 0–60 in 10.3 seconds, with a top speed of 112 mph. CO₂ emissions are 169 g/km. The Jaecoo 7 Luxury trim retails from £33-£36k and is available in two engine options:

Petrol - 1.6T 7DCT AWD

This is the J7’s only all-wheel-drive model and is powered by a 1.6L turbocharged engine paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission (DCT), delivering 147 PS. It goes from 0–60 mph in 11.8 seconds and reaches a top speed of 112 mph. CO₂ emissions are 182 g/km.

Hybrid - 1.5 PHEV FWD

This front-wheel-drive plug-in hybrid features a Dedicated Hybrid Transmission, delivering up to 204 PS. It goes from 0–60 in just 8.5 seconds, with a top speed of 112 mph. CO₂ emissions are impressively low at 23 g/km.

Conclusion

No matter which trim you choose, the Jaecoo J7 looks the same both inside and out, so you're not missing out on aesthetics either way.

The extra cost of the Luxury trim primarily comes from the availability of All-Wheel Drive and the Plug-in Hybrid option. You’ll also get some nice extras, like a slightly larger screen, upgraded Sony sound system, a heated steering wheel, a head-up display, and welcome seats that automatically retract when you open the door.

If you're happy with front-wheel drive and want a great all-rounder under £30k, the 1.6T 7DCT FWD Deluxe is a solid choice. However, if you value performance, plan to go off-roading, or often find yourself adventuring into the countryside, the Luxury trim may be worth the upgrade.

That said, if your focus is purely on looks and daily comfort, the Deluxe has everything you need without the higher price tag.
