U Turn from Government re Grants for Electric Vehicles

Following the announcement, Government officials have stated that the funds will now be allocated to improve the infrastructure to support its commitment of all new cars being electric by 2030, as well as investing in other electric vehicles and their accessibility.

So, what does this mean?

Fundamentally – electric cars will now seem more expensive to buy/lease for some consumers as they will no longer receive any financial input from the Government.

Realistically though, the impact will actually be minimal as the Government had already tightened the criteria on cars eligible meaning very few actually met the threshold for the grant to be given.

So, what’s the good news?

There will be a short window where some electric cars which have had the previously agreed Government grant factored into the cost will need to be snapped up so there are some deals still to be had.
