Searching Engines: The UK's Most Popular Cars of 2016

Google is a fantastic tool. Not only can it help internet users find the top ten funniest pug videos of all time in a matter of clicks, it can also tell companies, such as Leasing Options, what's being searched for online.

Don't get us wrong, we love pugs just as much as the next person, but if you were to ask us to choose between a video of a four-legged friend falling into a swimming pool or the top motors being searched for online, we'd certainly opt for the latter.

The good news is that we're definitely not alone – especially when you consider just how much the people of the England love their motors. The amount of time people spend on the internet searching for various car makes and models is testament to this, and by using Google Trends to see exactly what's being searched for, we can now reveal the nation's favourite car.

Britain's most searched brands

After examining Google Trends over the past 12 months, Ford came out on top, slightly pipping the company's German competitors, BMW, Audi and Mercedes-Benz to claim the title of the UK’s most popular car make.

Popular models included the Ford Focus, Fiesta and Transit, while the company's latest commercial motor, the Ford Edge, received the highest increase in search queries.

Japan also featured heavily within the country's top ten favourite car models list, with the Honda Civic and the Nissan Qashqai coming fourth and eighth respectively.

Another key takeaway from the data is that just one traditional 4x4 featured in the top ten models list - the Land Rover Discovery. Signalling a clear decline from years gone by, this move could be attributed to the growing demand for economical vehicles, as people look towards cheaper, eco-friendly options.

Sportage takes top spot

Confirming this, by reviewing our own data – which looks at the most popular leases throughout England – one car that outperformed the rest was the KIA Sportage Estate. And when you consider this particular model is capable of covering as many as 61 miles per gallon, it's easy to see why.

Remember, whether you're in the market for an economical hatchback or a family saloon, you'll be sure to find the perfect motor at an affordable price in our current range here at Leasing Options. We cater for both personal and businesses leases – so if you're in need of an upgrade, explore the range and find your top motor today.
