More EV Models Added to Government Grant

Good news for anyone thinking about going electric - the Government has added six more models to its Electric Car Grant scheme, offering even more options to save on a new EV.

Let’s break it down in simple terms.

What’s New—and Who’s Leading the Pack?

  • From 28 August 2025, six new models joined the grant scheme:
    • £3,750 off on two Ford models: the Puma Gen‑E and E‑Tourneo Courier—the first EVs to qualify for the full discount
    • £1,500 off on four more models: Peugeot E‑308, E‑408, DS 3, and DS No 4

With these additions, the total number of qualifying electric models now stands at 28

How Has the Scheme Evolved?

  • The grant works in two tiers based on how green a car’s production process is:
    • £3,750 grant for the most eco-friendly vehicles (“Band One”)
    • £1,500 grant for other eligible EVs (“Band Two”)

However, as of early September:

    • Only the two Ford models have the full £3,750 grant
    • Only a few others are under the £1,500 tier
    • And while up to six cars could eventually reach the top tier, most have not yet launched or received final approval

The rules were recently tightened -  sellers can no longer inflate a car’s specials above the eligibility limit (£42,000 cap, even if base model qualifies) to play the system.

What’s Affecting Buyers and Sales?

  • Interest in eligible EV models is soaring
  • But there’s also been confusion.
    • Many buyers aren’t aware of the two-tier system and expect the full grant.
    • Some are delaying their purchases, hoping for one of the few cars that qualify for £3,750

What this means

Want the full £3,750 off? Your best bet right now is the Ford Puma Gen‑E or E‑Tourneo Courier

  • Other options: Models like the Peugeot E‑308/E‑408 and DS 3/No 4 still qualify—for £1,500 off
  • Shop smart -  always check a model’s official grant status before leasing

So… Is the Scheme Working?

Yes and no. On one hand, the grants are catching attention and encouraging EV interest. On the other, with only a handful of cars qualifying for the top rate and more confusing rules, many drivers remain on the sidelines—waiting for clarity and better choices.

But the Government’s £650 million investment is still active, and more models are set to be added as manufacturers apply and pass sustainability checks.

If you’ve been waiting to go electric, this is still a great time—especially if you're interested in the Ford models that offer the full discount.

At Leasing Options, we’ll keep you updated as more models qualify and make sure you can grab the best deal when you’re ready to switch to electric.
