Mercedes-AMG GLC 63 and 63 S 4MATIC+ available to order

Mercedes-AMG’s new high-performance GLC 63 is now available to order in traditional SUV or svelte Coupé body styles.

Powered by a twin-turbocharged V8 engine, the super-quick SUV is based on the recently facelifted GLC and comes with a choice of power outputs and body styles. First up is the ‘standard’ GLC 63 4Matic+ in traditional SUV guise, the 4.0-litre V8 of which produces a thunderous 469bhp and 0-62 mph takes just four seconds, while the top speed is electronically limited to 155 mph.

That performance is coupled with a cornucopia of standard equipment, such as 19-inch alloy wheels, Mercedes’ latest MBUX infotainment system and a reversing camera. You also get some sporty AMG body styling, a 12.3-inch digital instrument display and AMG sports seats with heating for the driver and passenger.

As standard, the GLC 63 in either body style comes with air suspension that adjusts depending on which driving mode is selected, while there’s an electronic rear differential lock that aids both on- and off-road performance.

If your taste permits, you can opt for the Coupé version, which trades boot space for style with a sporty-looking fastback design. Under the sculpted skin, though, it’s identical to the SUV, with the same high-performance bits and bobs.

Whichever body style you go for, Mercedes offers a ‘Premium Plus’ package, which adds a glass sunroof, Burmester surround-sound audio system and the Keyless Go Comfort Package, which provides keyless entry as well as the standard push-button keyless ignition system.

Need more power? Walk this way…the GLC 63 S 4Matic+ model uses the same 4.0-litre V8 but super-tuned to 503hp, reducing the 0-62 mph time to a blistering 3.8 seconds and, with the speed limiter now removed, top speed peaks at 173 mph.

And to set it apart from the normal GLC 63, the S model also features a host of aesthetic and equipment upgrades. Larger 20-inch alloy wheels hide red brake callipers, while the sports seats are exchanged for ‘performance’ seats. There’s a sports steering wheel, too, and the body styling is ramped up even further with new side skirts and matt silver fins in the rear diffuser.

Mercedes-AMG offers a range of option packs, too, including the AMG high-performance ceramic composite brake system, which is only available to those buying the S model. Both versions, however, can be had with the Driving Assistance Package Plus, which includes adaptive cruise control that maintains a safe distance to the vehicle in front and blind-spot monitoring to alert the driver when a vehicle is in the blind spots over their shoulders.
