➤ The Defender reveal event will be livestreamed for the entire world to see the rebirth of an off-road icon.

Land Rover would like you to forget about all those hugely revealing images of the new Defender – particularly the one of an un-camouflaged test mule shot on the set of the new Bond film ‘No Time to Die’, which is currently doing the rounds on social media.

Instead, you are asked to focus on this new teaser image below showing a section of the SUV’s muddy front fascia. While the image isn’t something we haven’t seen before, we do get to find out that the Mercedes G-Class rival will debut on 10th September during the first press day of the Frankfurt Motor Show.

2020 Land Rover Defender

Those among us who’ve been waiting for the next generation to break cover ever since the old-school Defender bowed out of production at the beginning of 2016 will be glad to hear Land Rover will livestream the reveal event, scheduled to begin at 08:50hrs (BST).

There are still a couple of weeks to go until that happens, so don’t be too surprised if a series of teaser images are released in the coming days to build up even more hype around the reborn Defender. Already, we know that Land Rover plans 90, 110 and 130 Defender versions, with the latter expected to accommodate up to eight people.

Land Rover says it will open its order books for the new Defender on the stand at the Frankfurt Motor Show. Early reports suggest the first variant to go on sale will be the midrange 110 with a choice of five, six or seven seats. It should be followed early next year by the shorter 90 model with either five or six seats and eventually by the range-topping 130 towards the end of summer, 2020.

Further down the line, Land Rover could well spice up the Defender range with a pickup variant – but only if the Tata Motors-owned company will team up with another automaker as the research and development costs would be too high for Land Rover to handle on its own.

For those of us not at the Frankfurt Motor Show, the livestream of the reveal of new Defender may be watched at https://www.facebook.com/landrover.uk.
