Land Rover Announces Sponsorship for 2023 Rugby World Cup

With recent successes for Great Britain in the Commonwealth Games and England winning the 2022 Euros, the anticipation of the next sporting event gets underway – the Rugby World Cup.

Those with a keen eye will have noticed that Land Rover is one of the official Worldwide Partners for 2023. Car manufacturers are no stranger to supporting some of the highest profile teams and events, and Land Rover’s partnership with rugby is no exception.

The brand has formed a strong relationship with rugby over the past few decades, and they hope to bring next season’s tournament into an eco and socially responsible age.

The bond between Land Rover and rugby

Land Rover has supported all levels of rugby in the UK for many years. From grassroots games all the way through to elite competitions, the brand’s commitment to the sport has been a boost for practically every level.

An example of its grassroots support comes in the form of its sponsorship of the Land Rover Premiership Rugby Cup. This is a national series comprised of U11 and U12 festivals, which is run in partnership with all the Premiership clubs.

The focus of these festivals is to help young people into the sport and create those first bonds with the game. The brand also partners with Cardiff Rugby and the Glasgow Warriors. Plus, it has a long-standing relationship with Premiership Rugby itself.

On the world stage, Land Rover showcases its commitment to the sport with numerous sponsorships of tournaments and seven British & Irish Lions Tours. By backing UK teams and encouraging passion and outreach of the game, the car maker is helping build connections with fans and players worldwide.

2023 World Cup sponsorship

Given the strong bond detailed above, it’s no surprise to see Land Rover sponsoring the 2023 World Cup that will be held in France. They were confirmed as the fifth Worldwide Partner back in November 2021 – with shared values of passion, integrity and leadership underlined in the announcement.

But that’s not all. The partnership also aims to improve social responsibility – including both inclusion and sustainability. In line with tournament’s commitment to minimising carbon emissions, Land Rover is on its own journey towards electrification.

“Land Rover has been at the heart of rugby for two decades,” said Land Rover Chief Commercial Officer, Lennard Hoornik. “As we write this next chapter, we share France 2023’s commitment to making a positive difference on society through rugby.  The next two years represent a significant time for Land Rover as we journey towards electrification and Rugby World Cup will play an important part in that.”

Another interesting aspect of the sponsorship is the youth mascot programme – named ‘Defenders of Tomorrow’, reflecting the iconic Land Rover Defender. The objective is to give young people a platform, allowing them to show their support for the ideals above and how they will create a better future.

It’s not just a gimmick either. The mascots – who will be known as Land Rover Defenders of Tomorrow – will be chosen based on their commitment and passion for improving the word.

The perfect car for rugby?

Land Rover’s partnership with the Rugby World Cup isn’t just a great pairing because of their values. The brand is synonymous with building vehicles perfect for family fun and adventures – like a trip out to the rugby, of course.

If you’re packing everything you need for the next game, there’s plenty of room. The model of choice has to be the Discovery or Discovery Sport, especially if you’re looking for tons of room for passengers and kit bags.

Land Rover Discovery

The new Discovery has seven seats, and those at the back are full-sized. So, no scrimping on space, no matter your seating position. ISOFIX points are available on five of these seats. However, every passenger can access device charging points to stay connected.

Up front, you get the latest tech specs and infotainment system with an 11.4-inch touchscreen. Depending on the trim level, there’s the option of fabric or leather upholstery. Plus, each option has comfortable captain’s armrests in the front seats.

On the outside, you can expect Land Rover’s striking road appeal, and as you move up to the S and SE models, alloys are slightly larger, and there’s a host of other features.

Land Rover Discovery Sport

The Discovery Sport is one of the brand’s most versatile SUVs. It comes in diesel, petrol and hybrid, ideal if you’re looking for impressive fuel economy.

Similar to the Discovery model, this car has a 5 + 2 seating configuration. But the Sport prides itself on clever stowage. So, if your loaded up, including awkward-shaped items, there’s plenty of room to squeeze it in.

Premium materials throughout the cabin offer that next-level feel with this model. There’s also a choice of finishes to tailor the inside to your preferences.

Much like its sibling, the Sport is available in Sport S, Sport SE, R-Dynamic and Editions options.

Hybrid technology

Part of Land Rover’s commitment is to an environmentally and socially responsible tournament, so its Plug-in Hybrid Discovery is a great fit in that respect.

To save on fuel costs, you get an electric range of up to 37 miles before you switch over. This makes it ideal for shorter journeys.

You also get all the same driving experiences, benefits and space of the Discovery Sport but with fewer emissions at the exhaust.
