Volvo ES90: 5 Features That Really Stood Out

We've recently spent some time with the Volvo ES90, and while there's plenty to talk about when it comes to Volvo's electric executive saloon, some of the details particularly stood out. For this episode of Top 5 Things, we've picked five of our favourite features – starting with somewhere you might actually prefer to sit rather than drive. 1. The back seats The ES90's rear-seat experience is seriously impressive. There's loads of legroom for passengers to stretch out, but Volvo has gone beyond simply providing plenty of space. Four-zone climate control means those in the back can set their own temperature, while the centre armrest incorporates useful storage and cleverly hidden cupholders. It helps give the rear of the ES90 the sort of comfort you'd expect from a large executive car. 2. The frunk We're always fans of a useful frunk, and the ES90 has one tucked underneath its bonnet. It isn't enormous, but that's not really the point. It's the perfect place to store things like charging cables, keeping them separate from your luggage and stopping them from rolling around in the main boot. Simple? Yes. But also genuinely useful. 3. The portrait infotainment screen While huge landscape displays have become increasingly common, Volvo has taken a different approach with the ES90's portrait infotainment screen. It's sharp and responsive, with Google Maps built directly into the system. Apple CarPlay also makes particularly good use of the tall display. It's a layout that stands out from many of the wide screens we're used to seeing and suits the minimalist design of the ES90's cabin. 4. The driver display That minimalist approach continues with the driver display. Rather than trying to fill the driver's view with information, Volvo keeps things refreshingly simple. You get the details you actually need without the screen becoming distracting, along with a selection of different layouts. Our favourite is the particularly clean map view, which keeps navigation information directly in front of the driver without overcomplicating things. 5. Thor's Hammer Finally, we had to pick one of Volvo's most recognisable modern design features: Thor's Hammer headlights. The lighting signature has been part of Volvo's design language for more than a decade, evolving across several generations of the brand's cars. On the ES90, Volvo has given the design another update – and we think this might be the best-looking version yet.
