Why influencers have transformed their cars into TikTok studios
In the last few years, content creators, or “influencers” have been replacing filming studios for their cars. The phenomenon has soared in popularity since Youtube brought ‘vlogs’ to our screens and has since become even more prominent since the rise of TikTok.
Many content creators suggest that the switch up of studio space is down to numerous factors:
1. Flexibility and convenience:
Many influencers explain that having a studio on wheels means filming for TikTok can fit in with a busy lifestyle. Fitness influencer Redain Caije (@redainecaige), who has amassed 191K on the TikTok platform explains in one video that his car allows for on-the-go filming to become a reality, “I don’t get the chance or the luxury to film at home, so I use the sunlight as my ring light and my car as my studio. This is why I’m always in my car because it’s the only time when I can record.”
2. Lighting:
Not a fan of splashing on a ring light? No problem - content creators highlight that their car offers the best lighting. This is largely due to large windows allowing access to natural light without subjecting them to the outdoor weather. Australian model Sophie Vantuno told her 31K followers, “Why is it that every time you get in your car, it’s the best lighting? I swear every time I get in my car, it’s just banging lighting! I look great and my makeup looks good.”
3. Better acoustics:
Whether you’re using your car as a singing studio or a filming space, you’ve also got better acoustics to contend with inside the car. Why you need to be careful recording TikTok videos in the car
Interestingly, one creator we found raised an important point when it comes to this trend. Kelse What Else, a parenting content creator with over 400K followers explains, “In my opinion, if someone is driving you should scroll on past because that is not safe.”
We urge drivers to exercise responsibility when using their TikTok car studio and even found that by investigating the Highway Code, filming in your car can result in a £1,000 fine and in some cases lead to the loss of your license.
How can TikTok get you into trouble behind the wheel?
It’s illegal to hold and use a phone, sat nav, tablet, or any device that can send or receive data, while driving or riding a motorcycle. This means you must not use a device in your hand for any reason, whether online or offline. For example, you must not text, make calls, take photos or videos, or browse the web.

“It’s vital that you only film in the car when the car is parked, stationary with the handbrake on, as anything that can be construed as distracting your view of the road can be classed as driving without due care and attention.
While many TikTok videos depict content creators using hands-free access to film and drive, this isn’t advisable. Even using hands-free can still cause a driver to become distracted from the road and traffic ahead. “
