Omoda 5 Hybrid: 580 Miles of Range and Plenty of Technology
The Omoda 5 Hybrid promises 52.2mpg and an estimated 580-mile range. We explore its styling, technology, practicality and performance.
Omoda 5 Hybrid: Efficient, Affordable and Surprisingly Quick
The Omoda 5 Hybrid is a compact SUV that promises impressive fuel economy without sacrificing everyday performance, combining distinctive styling with a generous level of standard equipment.
With an estimated 580 miles of range from a single tank and a claimed 52.2mpg, there's plenty to be interested in before you even get behind the wheel.
We've been spending some time with the Omoda 5 SHS Hybrid to see what it has to offer.
Three powertrains to choose from
The Omoda 5 is available in three different versions: petrol, fully electric and the SHS Hybrid we're looking at here.
SHS stands for Super Hybrid System, and it's designed to deliver strong fuel economy while maintaining responsive everyday performance.
The headline figures are impressive, with a claimed 52.2mpg and an estimated 580-mile range from a single tank.
Distinctive styling
The Omoda 5 has a sleek crossover shape, with sharp exterior lighting and a large, distinctive front grille that gives it plenty of character.
It's a modern-looking compact SUV with styling that helps it stand out in an increasingly busy market.
Interior and technology
There are two trim levels available: Knight and Noble.
Even the entry-level Knight comes with a generous selection of equipment, including twin 12.3-inch curved displays, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and 18-inch alloy wheels.
Our test car was the higher-spec Noble, which adds synthetic leather upholstery, a panoramic sunroof and a clever 540-degree camera system.
It's an impressive amount of equipment, particularly considering the Omoda 5 Hybrid's relatively affordable purchase price.
Everyday practicality
Practicality is decent too.
The boot is a little shallow, which is worth considering if you regularly carry larger items, but there's some useful underfloor storage for everyday essentials.
Inside, the controls and displays are straightforward to use, with driving information positioned where you need it.
Driving experience and performance
On the road, the Omoda 5 Hybrid is easy to get along with.
It's straightforward to drive, responsive and surprisingly quick for a compact SUV focused on efficiency.
With a 0–60mph time of 7.9 seconds, it offers a good balance between fuel economy and everyday performance.
That combination is one of the more interesting aspects of the SHS Hybrid system, particularly for drivers who want to reduce their fuel consumption without giving up the familiar experience of a petrol-powered vehicle.
Omoda 5 Hybrid pricing
Prices start at just over £25,000 for the Knight, rising to just under £28,000 for the Noble.
Considering the standard technology, claimed efficiency and performance on offer, the Omoda 5 Hybrid presents an interesting option in the compact SUV market.
And, of course, there are leasing options worth exploring too.
So, would you choose the Omoda 5 Hybrid over a traditional petrol SUV?
