Speed Limiters Set for UK Roads

The UK Government is reviewing plans to make it mandatory for all new cars to be fitted with a mandatory speed limiter, following the ruling in France which will see ‘black box’ fitted in all new cars.

The plan is to be able to track how many miles people are doing and charge them by the mile – revolutionising the car tax system

Despite concerns of the increase in cost that this will result in, at a time when the cost of cars has never been higher, the Government is still considering it as part of its ongoing strategies to improving air quality and reduce congestion.

However, these plans may well suffer a major set back as a result of the semi conductor challenge that we have widely reported on, as each ‘black box’ relies on a number of ‘chips’ to work.

So with the Government potentially able to track how fast you’re going, where and when – what do you think? It’s already compulsory in the USA and now in France so will you be happy if this new ruling hits the UK roads? Let us know
