BMW 5 Series Car Lease

BMW 5 Series

With its sights aimed squarely at the Mercedes-Benz E-Class, Jaguar XF and the current Audi A6, the BMW 5 Series Saloon and Touring both available to lease, are similarly large executive cars that offer all the luxury and clinical build quality expected from a premium German manufacturer.

Now in its seventh generation and lighter, more powerful and more efficient than its predecessor, the current 5 Series remains focused on BMW’s core values of driving pleasure and performance.

Sleek, with sporting overtones, the car adopted new styling to the standard LED headlights, air slats behind the front wheel arch and a conservative profile with emphasis on drag coefficient that sets a new benchmark in this class. In essence, the 5 Series has never looked more like a mini-me 7 Series, which is no bad thing.

With no manual gearbox available, the new 5 Series is paired with an 8-speed automatic and as two- and all-wheel drive. For the saloon, there is also a petrol-electric hybrid (530e) for those adopting a greener work life balance.

Two trim grades are offered: SE and M Sport, which makes for a more customised experience, plus a selection of optional packs from which to cherry-pick.

The 5 Series feels distinctly sportier compared to the rather nautical Mercedes E-Class, which can’t quite match its fun factor on a quick backroad blast. The steering, suspension and chassis work impressively well together to negate the car’s bulk and the result is handling that puts plenty of smaller, lighter cars to shame.

    BMW 5 Series Review

    Driving a BMW 5 Series

The all-new 5 Series continues a fine tradition of luxurious saloons, now including all the latest cutting-edge tech and hallmarks of that BMW driving pedigree you’ve come to expect from the German manufacturer.

    Ride and handling

Whilst perhaps this new model has sacrificed a touch of sportiness for a dash more comfort, it undoubtedly remains one of the most responsive and all round good fun cars to drive in its sector, second only perhaps to the Jaguar XF for thrills and spills. Under the hood there are five engines to pick over (three diesel and two petrol), as well a plug in hybrid option which gives a boost to both performance and efficiency.

    Styling

There are no big changes on the styling front compared to the outgoing model, so the 5 Series retains its rather understated suave persona. Size-wise it still slots perfectly in between the smaller 3 Series and gargantuan 7 Series, arguably filling the sweet spot in BMW’s executive saloon range.

    Inside the cabin

BMW’s iDrive system has had an upgrade and all specs get the brilliant 12.3 inch touch sensitive widescreen, now with a higher resolution screen as well as sat nav, DAB radio and a 20GB hard drive for your own music. Comfort has never been better either – the driving position is perfect and arm rests offer great support when tackling longer journeys. Materials are top notch too. Everything feels well put together, expensive and luxurious, as you might expect.

    Practicality

Passengers front and back will be delighted with the amount of leg room on offer, even if they’re six foot plus. The boot clocks in at 530 litres, which is 10 shy of the Mercedes E-Class, but more than enough for most requirements. In general, levels of space are comparable with most SUVs but without the compromises on the road, of course.
