The new Skoda Kamiq, the Czech brand’s third and smallest SUV, will go on UK sale in November.

First revealed at the Geneva Motor Show earlier this year, the Skoda Kamiq will compete with the new Nissan Juke, the SEAT Arona, new Peugeot 2008 and Volkswagen’s T-Cross among others, for sales. Skoda will attempt to throw shade on the Kamiq’s main rivals by making it one of the most practical and technologically advanced models in its class.

The Kamiq’s overall shape is familiar from the Skoda Kodiaq and Karoq models already on sale but the Kamiq will become the smallest SUV in the Skoda range. The Kamiq does have a more distinctive nose than its two larger Skoda SUV siblings, featuring split headlights with separate daytime running lights and a rugged-looking front grille.

At the rear, the Kamiq borrows more design inspiration from the new Skoda Scala hatchback, with angled rear LED lights and ‘S K O D A’ in block lettering badging complemented by a silver-accented lower rear bumper.

The 15-model Kamiq range is made up of four trim levels; S, SE, SE-L and Monte Carlo (revealed earlier this month at the Frankfurt Motor Show). The range-entry Kamiq S features 16-inch alloy wheels, LED headlights, air conditioning, a 6.5-inch touchscreen infotainment system with DAB and Skoda’s e-Call telematics concierge service.

Walking up the range, the SE model offers 17-inch alloy wheels, body-coloured bumpers, an eight-inch touchscreen infotainment system, and Wireless Smartlink for Apple CarPlay. SE models also come with rear parking sensors, cruise control, and automatic lights and wipers.

The SE-L gets larger 18-inch alloy wheels, a 9.2-inch touchscreen infotainment system with navigation, keyless engine start/stop and blind spot warning system. SE-L customers also benefit from black and silver micro-suede upholstery and rear LED lights with dynamic indicators.

The top of the range Monte Carlo model features gloss black detailing and badging, a panoramic sunroof, 18-inch grey alloy wheels and a red LED ambient lighting system.

Inside, the Kamiq’s cabin design resembles that of the Scala hatchback, with the deployment of high-quality materials throughout. The infotainment system is available in three screen sizes from 6.5 to 9.2-inches, increasing in size towards the top of the range. A 10.25-inch virtual cockpit – reminiscent of the latest Audi TT), may be specified as an option.

New tech on offer includes wireless smartphone charging, USB-C connectivity, mood lighting, heated windscreen, an electrically adjustable driver’s seat and an electric tailgate.

Skoda has also armed the Kamiq with the latest technology. The built-in LTE eSIM means the car is always online, enabling optimised satellite navigation and the Laura Skoda Digital Assistant, which responds to voice commands. A wi-fi hotspot, four USB-C ports for front and rear passengers and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto all come as standard.

Having already attained a five-star safety rating from crash-test experts Euro NCAP, the Skoda Kamiq comes standard with the an array of latest safety technology, including Front Assist, Lane Assist, City Emergency Brake / Predictive Pedestrian Protection and Multi-Collision Brake.

Additional optional kit includes adaptive cruise control, which works with the Kamiq’s optional DSG gearbox to automatically bring the car to a halt in traffic before automatically pulling away again within three seconds as traffic starts moving.

The Kamiq will be available with a choice of four engines driving only the front wheels – there is no all-wheel drive option. The range-entry engine is the 94hp 1.0-litre three-cylinder, followed by a 113hp version of the same engine, plus the range-topping 148hp 1.5-litre four-cylinder petrol.

The sole diesel choice is a 1.6-litre engine with 113hp. All of the engines – excluding the range-entry 95hp unit – may be specified with a six-speed manual gearbox as standard, or an optional seven-speed DSG automatic.
