MERCEDES-BENZ: New GLC 300 e PHEV SUV and coupe31 January 2020
The new Mercedes GLC 300 e plug-in hybrid (PHEV) is the German marque’s smallest electrified SUV, offering 0-62mph of 5.7 seconds and capable of up to 117.7mpg.
The new Mercedes-Benz GLC 300 e 4MATIC PHEV is now on sale in both SUV and coupe body styles. The GLC 300 e features a 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol engine paired with a 13.5 kWh battery. The engine produces 155hp and 350Nm of torque, while the electric motor adds an additional 122hp and 700Nm.
Drive is via a nine-speed automatic sending power to all four wheels.
The car is Mercedes’ 20th electrified model in a range that includes hybrids and the fully electric EQC SUV. The GLC 300 e’s petrol and electric powertrain is borrowed from the E-class hybrid.
The battery gives an all-electric range of 29 miles, while delivering up to 117.7 mpg and emitting just 54 g/km of CO2. The 13.5 kW battery and 7.4kw on-board charger means the GLC 300 e PHEV can be charged via a 7.4 kW wallbox in under two hours.
The appearance of the 300 e falls in line with the rest of the recently revised GLC range but the hybrid powertrain does have an impact on practicality; boot capacity is reduced by almost a third to 395 litres. Braked towing capacity is rated at 2,000kg.
