Government Announcement on New Scrappage Scheme
19 June 2020The Government is set to launch a new scrappage scheme, offering drivers discounts of up to £6000 to switch their petrol/diesel car to a new electric/hybrid car.
As lockdown has begun to ease, the Government is keen to support car manufacturers and the wider motoring industry by encouraging drivers to trade in their current petrol/diesel car for a new electric/hybrid vehicle to help kick start the economy and the car industry following COVID19.
Not only will the new scrappage scheme help the Government with the economy, but it would help it achieve its 2050 zero carbon ambition.
This isn’t the first rodeo for a ‘Scrappage Scheme’. In 2010, nearly 500,000 cars had been scrapped following an incentive from the Government to trade in their old cars (ones over 10 years old) in exchange for up to £2,000 towards a newer model.
Further details about the car scrappage scheme are due as part of a Government announcement on 6th July so keep your eye on our blog for further updates.
