➤ New Mitsubishi ASX now on sale with new styling and optional four-wheel-drive.
Mitsubishi has revealed more details of its 2019 ASX SUV after making its public debut at the Geneva Motor Show earlier this year.
The next-generation Mitsubishi ASX is now on sale and will be a direct rival against the Nissan Qashqai, Ford Kuga and Kia Sportage, with this new version getting a new exterior and interior design.
At the front is the new Mitsubishi ‘Dynamic Shield’ family front end design, similar to that of the Eclipse Cross, Outlander and Shogun Sport. Completing the exterior makeover are a new bumper, grille, bonnet, LED headlights and new off-road-style skid plates front and rear. Both of the available trim levels now come with 18-inch alloy wheels and two new paint colours.
The latest iteration of Mitsubishi's smartphone-link display audio system is now larger with an eight-inch screen, with support for TomTom navigation, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, live traffic updates and servicing reminders. You can also watch videos stored on a USB memory stick when parked up.
Also deployed to good effect in the Outlander, the naturally-aspirated 2.0-litre petrol engine produces 148hp and can be ordered with front- or four-wheel drive, along with a five-speed manual or CVT automatic gearbox. The latter will also offer a ‘six-speed' Sports Mode that can mimic a stepped six-speed gearbox to provide greater performance.
Paired to the manual gearbox, the 2.0-litre engine gets the ASX from 0-62mph in 10.2 seconds, which increases to 12.2 seconds if you choose the four-wheel drive variant with the CVT ‘automatic’ gearbox. Fuel economy figures have yet to be confirmed.
The 2019 Mitsubishi ASX is offered in just two trim levels – Design and Dynamic – at launch, both of which are generously equipped. Design spec offers privacy glass, heated front seats, cruise control, auto lights and wipers, keyless start and a rear-view camera, while Dynamic spec adds a panoramic glass roof, leather upholstery, sat nav, the option of four-wheel drive and additional safety features.
