After the PSA Groupe purchased Vauxhall in 2017, the Astra has been given a makeover. The facelift includes revised engine choices, with a completely bespoke range of all-alloy petrol and diesel engines available.
The 1.2 petrol turbo comes in three output choices: 108 bhp, 128 bhp and 145 bhp. These three-cylinder engines offer the same CO2 and fuel consumption figures on each output level and are available with a six-speed manual gearbox.
The second petrol option is a 1.4 3-cylinder turbo 143 bhp, which comes with a nine-speed automatic gearbox. If diesel is your fuel of choice, the Astra is offered with two Euro 6d-compliant 1.5 three-cylinder engines in 103 bhp and 119 bhp. It’s also available with the six-speed manual or nine-speed automatic.Â
As part of the facelift, the Astra received improved aerodynamics to improve both performance and economy. You can also take advantage of chassis upgrades to benefit the new range of engines.
The interior saw several upgrades too, with the addition of Apple CarPlay and Android Auto via the seven-inch touchscreen infotainment system, plus improved seating with a more ergonomically designed driver's seat.Â
The Astra is available in five-door hatch and sports tourer estate body styles. Boot space for the hatch is 370 litres, which is similarly sized to its competitors, the Volkswagen Golf and Ford Focus. The sports tourer has a boot space of 540, expanding to 1,630 litres when the rear seats are folded flat.
