Guide To Documents For Car Leasing
We’ve made you a one-stop guide to all the documents you will need to complete the leasing process and get hold of your brilliant new vehicle. Read on to find out everything you need to know.
What documents do I need to lease a car?
With all finance agreements, the funders need to prove your identity in the form of the following official documents, to ensure that you are not the victim of identity fraud.
Document Needed For Personal Leasing
Looking to lease a car for personal use? You will be asked for these documents;
Photo ID (your valid driving licence or passport)
Standard government-issued forms of ID are used in all walks of life, nothing unusual for leasing.
Proof of address documents
(such as utility bills or bank statements, which must be no more than 90 days from when the funder requests them).
Generally go hand in hand with a Photo ID to prove where you live and who you are, and present to stop money laundering.
On top of these documents, the leasing company will ask you for the following information. Make sure you have all the details and numbers available to you:
- Your employment history (over the last three years at least)
- Full details of your current income (by the month), as well as other major expenditures such as rent/mortgage repayments to help assess your monthly capability
- Marital status
- Residential status, as well as your address history (over the last three years at least)
- Details for the applicant’s bank account that would be used for your monthly direct debits.
This information will be used to help assess your creditworthiness and is required by the three Credit Reference Agencies for all credit checks carried out in the UK.
Occasionally, you may be required to provide additional information, to support your application or help verify your identity including:
- Previous gross salary info,
- Household/partners income,
- Student loans etc
There’s are asked for by some funders when they’re conducting their fact-finding checks and affordability tests, to make sure that the agreement is suitable and that you are not stretching your finances beyond your means.
Document Needed For Business Leasing
As you may be aware, business car leasing comes with many benefits. Because this would be a lease taken out under your business, rather than your own name, the documentation required is different.
What Documents Do I Need For A Business Lease?
When taking out a business lease, you will need to provide the following documents:
Business owner’s photo ID
This needs to be either a valid driving licence or passport.
Business’ bank statements
You could also be asked for the last three months of the business’ bank statements.
You will also have to provide the following information from your files:
- The company’s registered and trading address and status
- The company registration number and VAT number (if applicable)
- The company’s annual turnover
- The names, dates of birth and marital status of all the company’s directors
- You may also be asked for up to date management accounts and director’s personal guarantee, depending on the health and age of the company.
The requirements can vary but one of our experts will be able to confirm all documents required, on request.
As with every reputable leasing broker, Leasing Options will only use this data as part of the finance-checking process, so you don’t need to have any data protection concerns. Your details will be safe with us.
Will these documents need to be provided in person?
You may have to provide your proof of ID and proof of address as a hard copy as well as photocopies, although this changes from leasing company to leasing company. Our support team will contact you should this be required.
