The Model Y completes Elon Musk’s 'S3XY' line-up, a sister vehicle to the Model 3 - the Model Y continues with the minimalist design ethos.
The Model Y and Model 3 share a lot of the same chassis and running gear components, with the Model Y being longer, wider and 15 cm taller than the Model 3 its sits perfectly between that and the Model X
Two power options are currently available for the UK a Performance and Long Range. The performance makes use of Tesla’s ludicrous quick electric motors meaning the Model 3 will get to 62mph in 3.5 seconds and continue to a limited 155mph and a range of up 5to 298 miles. The long-range is slightly slower to 62mph at 4.8 seconds and has a range of up to 315 miles.
Both models make use of Tesla's latest supercharger network, and using a 250kWh charger, five minutes of charge can add 75miles or 15 minutes of charge adds 158 miles of range back into the batteries.
Inside the cabin, you're struck by the sheer minimalist nature of the dashboard, a single central landscape 15" touchscreen display, which controls everything with very little physical switchgear around the cabin.
Seating for five adults is done with ease and being taller than the Model 3 the rear seats are higher allowing more legroom for taller rear-seat passengers. The boot has a capacity of 850 litres with rear seats in place expanding to 1,869 litres when the rear seats are folded flat, with the added feature of a tailgate compared to a boot lid on the Model 3.
