Skoda Scala Lease
The cabin is one of the most appealing aspects of the Scala. Both models offer an infotainment screen. Plus, Skoda has sensibly decided to keep buttons for the touchscreen shortcuts and the climate controls, so you don’t have to navigate through menus just to change the temperature.
The Scala might be based on the VW Group’s ‘A0’ platform, which underpins smaller models like the Fabia and the VW Polo, but it’s actually 10cm longer than a VW Golf. That means boot space is highly impressive and there’s plenty of space and headroom at the back.
Boot space is so good that you might consider the Scala over a Golf Estate. With the rear seats in place, there’s 467 litres to fill (Focus 375, Golf 380). Flip the 60:40 folding seats down and there’s 1,410 litres of space (Golf 1,270).
Offered in just two trim grades, SE and SE L, but neither model is sparsely equipped. Standard equipment on the range-entry SE includes 16-inch alloys, DAB radio, front fogs, hill start assist, LED headlights, height and lumbar adjustment for front seats, aircon, park distance control, stop/start with regenerative breaking and cruise control with speed limiter.
A Skoda Scala lease can come with two petrol engines: a 1.0-litre 115hp unit paired with a six-speed manual gearbox or a 1.5-litre 150hp engine paired only with a seven-speed DSG automatic gearbox. The lone diesel is a 1.6-litre 115hp unit paired with either the manual or DSG automatic gearbox.
The Scala is perfectly fine to drive and goes about its business with little fuss, helped by light steering and decent engines. The ride is on the firm side, but such is the nature of most family hatchbacks.
