The Ariya is available in two different outputs, with the entry-level offered with a two-wheel drive, and a 64kWh / 217hp battery which should give a range up to 223 miles. The second option is a 239bhp, 87kWh version, which ups the range to 310 miles.

Nissan offers its e-4orce, a 4-wheel drive system, on both models; but the range will be slightly less. The top-of-the range Ariya e-4orce 87kWh Performance has 389bhp and a 0-62 time of 5.1 seconds.

When driving the Ariya you have a choice of three driving modes, Standard, Sport and Eco and on four-wheel-drive models a Snow mode. You also have the option to set Nissan's e-pedal regenerative braking to a point where it's possible to drive the Ariya using only one pedal.

Inside the cabin, it is very futuristic but stylish – you're instantly greeted with two 12.3inch screens, one mounted centrally as the vehicle’s infotainment and HAVAC control centre, with touch-sensitive controls in the centre console. A second screen is the digital driver's display, showing all the vital information which is accompanied by a detailed Heads-Up display.

Practicality wise, there is seating for five adults, and in two-wheel-drive configuration a whole 466 litres of space. The four-wheel-drive model's space is slightly reduced, at 408 litres
