Driving a Honda Civic
Honda’s omnipresent hatchback has been gracing UK roads for nearly half a century now and remains as popular as ever with British motorists.
Ride and handling
Reliability and incredibly dependable engines have always been a calling card of the Honda Civic, and the latest model continues that fine heritage. With the choice between a 1.0 or 1.5 litre VTEC petrol for urban exploration or the 1.6 DTEC diesel ideally suited for motorway driving, there should be something to fit most motorists’ requirements. Getting behind the wheel is enjoyable too, with just enough sporty engagement to keep you interested but also competent suspension to handle less than perfect roads.
Honda make a point of keeping things fresh with the design of their cars, and the Civic often divides opinion more than a slice of Marmite on toast, but whichever way you see it this car certainly guarantees a more standout persona than its slightly more sedately devised competitors.
Inside the cabin
The dash in the Honda Civic is simple but effective. You’ll get a 5 or 7 inch touchscreen, depending on which trim you opt for, but all the usual smartphone connectivity as well as sat nav is bundled as standard. There are tons of helpful storage solutions for all your cups and car junk, plus a handy wireless phone charger to make life that little bit easier. Leg space is plentiful on the backseats although taller passengers may find headroom a little on the tight side.
Boot space in the Honda Civic is amongst the best in class, with an impressive 478 litres worth of room for luggage, shopping or whatever else you fancy carting around. Knock down the back row of seats and that expands to 1,267, which is almost as voluminous as the Volkswagen Golf.
