What is a car warranty?

Are leased cars under warranty?

With Leasing Options, your lease car will come with the standard UK manufacturer’s warranty, the same as if you’d bought the car. This means that if your car develops a mechanical fault within the period of the warranty, you won’t have to pay for any repairs or replacements yourself.

You also have the option of signing a lease that includes insurance. This would further cover you for accidents and incidents like theft and fire. Read more about that on our complete guide to insured leasing.

How long is my warranty on a lease car?

This will depend on the manufacturer’s warranty length, but a good warranty is generally at least 3 years – which is often the same or longer than your contracted lease period, so you won’t have anything to worry about!

Warranty periods are also sometimes measured in mileage rather than years. This will vary from make to make.

What does a car warranty cover?

Your car warranty will generally cover all the main mechanical and/or electronic faults with your vehicle, such as:

  • Issues with brake system parts
  • Electrical items
  • Engine faults
  • Transmission system faults
  • Fuel and ignition systems problems
  • Cooling system problems
  • Steering issues
  • Suspension issues
  • Gearbox faults

This varies from manufacturer to manufacturer so make sure to have a comprehensive conversation with your account manager about this when signing your contract.

At Leasing Options we are more than confident that all the suppliers we work with provide exceptional warranties. This is just another upside of working with a trusted leasing broker.

What does a car warranty not cover?

The warranty will not cover you for:

  • Issues caused by failures that adhere to the manufacturer’s guidelines of vehicle care.
  • Any issues caused by misuse or irresponsible driving
  • Wear and tear related changes to the vehicle

What do issues like these look like in practice? The most common faults not covered by your warranty are things like:

  • Clutch faults
  • Brake pad wearing
  • Tyre wearing/ punctures

What happens if my lease car is faulty?

If your Leasing Options vehicle is faulty, contact our customer services team as soon as possible to let us know. If the fault is eligible for repair under warranty, we will organise this for you.
