The great British summer is excelling itself this year, but whilst these isles aren't usually famed for sunshine, us Brits love convertibles whatever the weather- in fact only Germany buys more anywhere in Europe. This month we'll be celebrating taking the top down with all things convertible, so to kick things off these are the best convertible car lease deals for 2018, our favourite vehicles to enjoy the perfect sun-soaked drive.

MINI Convertible

MINI Convertible

It goes without saying the MINI is British icon, a car synonymous with the swinging sixties that's still just as much fun to drive now, especially this convertible. These days it's not so mini either, this model is more spacious than previous generations, although the back seats are still a bit of a squeeze. There's also a great choice of engines, including a super-efficient diesel capable of 74 mpg or the seriously quick John Cooper Works version that's enough to make anyone fall in love with driving all over again. Basically this car is cool inside and out, from the premium feel of the retro styled interior, with plenty of options for personalisation, to the sporty body and grille evocative of the much loved original.

BMW 2 Series Convertible

BMW 2 Series Convertible

With a BMW you can rest assured you'll be getting premium quality throughout, and the 2 Series Convertible is no different, this is a seriously desirable car. Not only is this rag top fantastic looking, it drives brilliantly too with arguably the best handling in its class. There's a choice of four engines as well, providing efficient diesel options and a turbocharged 3.0-litre petrol that'll get from 0 to 62mph in 5 seconds flat. Like most convertibles, the Beemer suffers from a lack of space in the back and there are only two seats, but there's plenty of room up front and the interior has all the hallmarks of style you expect with a BMW, after all this is a car for the drivers out there.

Mercedes-Benz C-Class Cabriolet

Mercedes-Benz C-Class Cabriolet

We're big fans of the C-Class, we named it our Leasing Options Car of the Year last time, so when news of the new cabriolet body landed we couldn't wait to get behind the wheel of one. If you crave the luxury that the three pointed star exudes then this is the car for you, it could well be the most refined vehicle on this list. Whilst there’s a slight weight increase of around 120kg compared to the coupe, it doesn't dampen the driving experience much at all- this machine still feels great on the road. Comfort is paramount in this convertible, and with the cunning Mercedes Airscarf system, which blows warm air on to your neck, you can keep the top down all year round.

Volkswagen Beetle Cabriolet

Volkswagen Beetle Cabriolet

Few motors can match the cool retro image of a Volkswagen Beetle. Designed pre World War Two but arguably the quintessential car of the hippies a few decades later, VW’s Bug continues to enchant with it’s cute curves. The modern iteration makes for an ideal cabriolet too, the quick-fire roof operates in just nine seconds and doesn’t take up any of an impressive 225 litre boot space. Under the bonnet, the Beetle benefits from the same choice of engines as the standard model with a pair of 1.2 and 1.4 litre turbocharged petrols as well as a frugal 2.0 litre oil burner available with either 108 or 148bhp. There’s also a 6.5 inch touchscreen as standard, upgrade to the Design range for Air conditioning, DAB radio and connectivity for your smartphone.

Fiat 124 Spider

Fiat 124 Spider

If you’re going to build your sports car on the platform of any other vehicle, the Mazda MX-5 would have to be top of your wishlist. Fiat’s 124 Spider takes all that precision engineered, two-seater racing vivacity and sprinkles just a little Italian stardust on top. The body has been made wider and longer and given a more muscular and butch frame, but still feels nicely nimble. Inside you’ll find a similar interior to the Mazda, this is no bad thing though, minimalist and practical are the order of the day. Fiat keep things simple under the hood too, with just one engine on offer, a turbocharged 1.4 litre petrol available with either 138bhp or 168bhp – the quicker configuration will spurt from static to 60mph in a sprightly 7.3 seconds.

DS 3 Cabrio

DS 3 Cabrio

Citroen’s premium brand DS have had a lot of success with their chic little hatchback and its shape translates perfectly to the cabriolet format. Removing the fabric roof still leaves side roof pillars in place of course, so the car is arguably not a full convertible, but that set up offers more rigidity and so less extra weight is required- also the soft top can be operated at speeds up to 75mph. Generous standard kit includes air conditioning, cruise control and Bluetooth, plus there are loads of colour and style options for added personalisation. A range of efficient petrol and diesel engine options supply plenty of power around town and there’s a 4 cylinder 205bhp 1.6 litre petrol version if you’re looking for full on hot hatch mode.

Porsche 718 Boxster Roadster

Porsche 718 Boxster Roadster

If the ride is all that matters to you, we've definitely saved the best until last. The car that saved the Porsche brand back in the mid 90s is still the star of the show when it comes to delivering performance and pure driving pleasure. This mid-engined sports car revolutionised the market for more affordable thrills on the tarmac, providing more grip and the best handling ever seen on a car anywhere near this price point. True this a bit of a gas guzzler, from a choice of four petrol engines you won't see anything over a claimed 41mpg, but when it's this much fun to drive who cares?
