This June will give car leasing customers the opportunity to get their hands on the new Renault Wind. The car is a two-seat coupe-convertible that is aimed at competing with national rival Peugeot and their 207CC.
Geneva will see the cars official launch in March where the Wind, that shares its platform and majority of front end styling with the Twingo, will get its first public airing. Renault are keen to differentiate between the two models by providing the Wind with its own unique interior featuring components from vehicles higher up the company range.
The Wind is different to most retractable hard-tops, in that it doesn't use a hinge system. Instead it uses a Ferrari inspired central pivot as part of the mechanism that retracts the roof. The advantage of this system is that boot space remains constant, regardless of roof position. Car leasing customers will therefore have some 270 litres of space to play with come rain or shine, 40 litre more than a standard Twingo.
Initially the Wind will be available with a choice of two petrol engines. A 1.6-litre unit that offers 133bhp and a smaller 1.2-litre with 100bhp to play with. Although the car gets the Twingo's most powerful engines Renault will be pitching the Wind as a sports model and not a sports car. Although no Renaultsport or Gordini Wind version are planned, there may be some in the future to add to the line-up.
More details of this sporty coupe-convertible will be confirmed at the Geneva motor show, where Renault will be displaying the model alongside other new cars such as the Megane coupe-cabriolet. As for price the Wind is expected to closely match the 207CC as a direct competitor.
